According to a report by Bloomberg on Monday, Apple and Alphabet Google are in discussions about integrating AI elements into Apple's flagship iPhones using Google's Gemini generative artificial intelligence system.
The two sides are currently negotiating for Apple to grant Gemini a licence to use some planned iPhone software capabilities.
Additionally, Apple had talks with OpenAI, which was supported by Microsoft and may use their ChatGPT approach as well.
Apple and Google were still in the early stages of their discussions and had not yet reached a decision on a deal or a brand.
Google and Apple presently have a partnership whereby Apple's Safari web browser uses Google's search engine by default.
This all comes just a few weeks after Google's Gemini bot came under fire for using its image production tool to produce contentious pictures. At that point, Google has disabled the bot's ability to create images.
When it comes to implementing AI features for its main products, the iPhone manufacturer has slightly trailed behind its competitors. Samsung Electronics and Google have already implemented these functions in recent months.
Nonetheless, Tim Cook, the CEO of Apple, has hinted that Apple intends to reveal more about its goals for generative AI later this year. Additionally, it was revealed in recent rumours that Apple had abandoned its plans to produce an electric car in favour of investing more money in artificial intelligence.
