CEO of OpenAI wants to change the semiconductor and AI industries with trillions of dollars

In an article published on Friday, The Wall Street Journal said that OpenAI CEO Sam Altman was talking to investors about collecting money for a very ambitious tech project.

According to the article, Altman is in discussions with investors, including the government of the United Arab Emirates.

The project, which is estimated to cost several trillion dollars, intends to boost the world's capacity to produce chips, enhance its ability to power artificial intelligence and accomplish various other goals. According to the Wall Street Journal, sources told them that the project could need to raise between $5 trillion and $7 trillion.

The WSJ observes that there are substantial obstacles to overcome, particularly since the amount of the sum under discussion is massive and would far exceed the present scale of the global semiconductor industry. Nevertheless, the ideas are purportedly intended to address expansion limits for OpenAI.

The source has also revealed that Altman's new fundraising plans would account for energy usage because artificial intelligence facilities use a significant amount of electricity.
