According to Bloomberg on Tuesday, the U.S. Department of Justice is allegedly considering measures to curtail Google's supremacy in internet search, such as a split following a recent court decision that the corporation had monopolised the industry.
Bloomberg's sources claimed that if the Justice Department proceeds with its split plan, it may require Alphabet's Google to sell its Chrome web browser and Android operating system.
The possible split strategy follows the Department of Justice's recent significant court win over Google. On August 5, a federal judge named Amit P. Mehta declared that Google had an unlawful monopoly in the marketplaces for text messaging and internet searches.
According to the sources, the DoJ may consider less drastic steps such as compelling Google to share more data with rivals and taking action to stop its undue advantage in AI products, in addition to pursuing a breakup plan.
