After testing new artificial intelligence features on its Bing search engine with users from more than 169 countries for a week, Microsoft released its preliminary findings.

The Redmond, Washington-based business said in a blog post on Wednesday that chat has proven to be a popular feature that has improved engagement and that 71% of testers have approved of AI-powered responses.

Beyond specialised searches, people are utilising the chat-enabled Bing "for more broad exploration of the world, and for social pleasure," the business claimed.

The innovative technology was developed by Microsoft with the use of ChatGPT-like technology from OpenAI, the start-up that created the wildly successful online chatbot.

A tweaked and enhanced version of OpenAI's GPT language models is being used by Microsoft, an early supporter of the company that recently invested an additional $10 billion in it and strengthened its partnership. With the chat integration, you may have more in-depth conversations while receiving responses.

According to Microsoft, there is still a lot of space for development. The tech giant will treble the grounding data it gives to the model that generates responses for queries that demand a high degree of accuracy, such as financial reports.

However, Microsoft discovered that its chat AI struggled with discussions that had 15 or more queries. In accordance to the statement, "Bing can become repetitious or be provoked or encouraged to offer comments that are not always helpful or in keeping with our desired tone."

Several bizarre exchanges with the Bing bot have been documented online by researchers and other testers, in which the AI used aggressive or confrontational language or challenged obvious facts like the date. Microsoft has recognised individuals conducting edge-case scenario testing and stated that these efforts are assisting in the product's improvement.

The firm stated, "This cannot be done simply in the lab; we know we must construct this in the open with the community.”
