Elon Musk plans to enclose more of Twitter behind a subscription fee, preventing non-paying users from being seen in the social network's main feed.

According to the billionaire, starting on April 15 only accounts with a blue tick under its Blue subscriber service would be recommended in its "for you" feature. Blue subscriber accounts cost £8 per month or £11 per month on iPhones.

To access more services, such as the ability to vote in polls, users must additionally pay the monthly charge and validate their account.

Musk asserted that the action was "the only practical response to the takeover of sophisticated AI bot swarms." Otherwise, it is a meaningless struggle.

A gold "certified organisation" emblem on the website would cost up to £950 a month, according to the billionaire's plans.

The choice is being made as Musk tries to increase the number of subscribers and advertising interest on Twitter.

The CEO has slashed hundreds of positions to save money and has warned staff that the social network faces a liquidity crisis.

In an effort to promote free speech, Twitter's boss has undergone a drastic makeover that has resulted in the lifting of hundreds of account suspensions.

Users may now browse Tweets on two separate channels: "for you" and "following" on Twitter's main news stream.

While the "following" feature provides users with a chronological feed of the other accounts they follow, the "for you" page displays content that has been hand-selected using an algorithm.

Musk acquired Twitter last year in a $44 billion (£36 billion) deal.
