The European Central Bank president, Christine Lagarde, stated on Friday that while the relatively mild wage growth numbers for the fourth quarter are positive, they are not yet sufficient to give the ECB confidence that inflation has been vanquished.
"It's clear that the Q4 wage numbers are encouraging," Lagarde stated during a press briefing. "The Governing Council needs to be more confident that the disinflationary process that we are observing will be sustainable and will take us to the 2% medium term target."
According to Lagarde, the ECB will be particularly focused on the wage data that was negotiated and is scheduled to be released in May.
