According to Vox, Meta Platforms has warned employees of a fresh wave of job cuts, with the official announcement expected as early as today April 19th, 2023.
Based on sources connected to the situation, the corporation plans to lay off up to 4,000 employees across a number of technical teams, including those working on Facebook, Instagram, Reality Labs, and WhatsApp.
According to an internal document obtained by Vox, North American Meta workers will be notified via email on Wednesday. In line with reports, the corporation is also requesting employees who can work from home to do so in order to allow those affected "space to process the news."
The decision appears to be in response to Meta's CEO Mark Zuckerberg's March revelation that the business plans to cut 10,000 additional jobs in the coming months.
At the time, Zuckerberg stated that tech departments would be affected in April, while business departments would be affected in May, implying that the firm might announce yet another round of layoffs as soon as next month.
The parent company of Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp is just one of several large IT companies laying off people on a regular basis; only a few weeks ago, Amazon announced its latest round of layoffs, impacting 9,000 employees.
Shares of Meta are currently down 1.7% in pre-market.
