According to Reuters, OpenAI is expected to introduce its AI-powered search engine on Monday, stepping up its rivalry with Google.
The announcement date has never been made public before, although it is not set in stone.
Based on reports from Bloomberg and The Information, Microsoft-backed OpenAI and well-funded AI search firm Perplexity are working on a search solution to take on Alphabet's Google.
The announcement could coincide with Tuesday's opening of Google's annual I/O conference when the tech giant is anticipated to make a number of new announcements linked to artificial intelligence.
As an addition to its ChatGPT AI tool, OpenAI's new search offering will enable ChatGPT to get online content directly and incorporate citations, according to Bloomberg News.
Despite being seen by industry observers as a possible substitute for internet information retrieval, ChatGPT has had difficulties in providing precise, up-to-date web data.
To solve this problem, OpenAI has incorporated Microsoft's Bing search engine for customers who can afford to pay. Google responded by adding generative AI capabilities to its top search engine.
