Shipments of Apple's iPhones fell 10% in Q1, and Samsung took the top position again

According to market statistics from IDC, Apple had a nearly 10% fall in iPhone shipments in Q1 2024, while the overall smartphone industry saw a recovery.

Compared to the previous year, when the sector saw an excess of inventory, global shipments of mobile phones climbed by 7.8% to a total of 289.4 million units.

Samsung took back the top spot in the market.

According to IDC experts, "the smartphone market is emerging from the turbulence of the last two years both stronger and changed."

Data revealed that Xiaomi Corp. made notable progress and closed the gap with Apple, which is presently in second place, while the affordable brand Transsion reported an amazing 85% increase in shipments.

The decline in iPhone shipments coincides with Apple's ongoing struggles to sustain its sales momentum in China, the world's largest market for smartphones.

Since the release of its most recent iPhone lineup in September, these difficulties have been more apparent.

Consequently, IDC's early data indicates that Apple shipped 5 million fewer iPhones over the same period last year, placing pressure on the company's overall performance.
