The Russian automaker Sollers, in talks with the Japanese company over buying its stake as part of their Russian joint venutre.

As Mazda prepares to slow down its operations in Russia, Sollers is taking this as an opportunity to buy the Japanese company’s stake in their Russian joint venture. Mazda sold 30,000 cars in Russia last year, it exports parts into the Vladivostok plant where the productions will cease once all the stocks have run out (reuters). Reportedly in the talks between Mazda and Sollers, the Russian automaker wanted to stop production at the plant entirely for the foreseeable (reuters).

However, in a recent statement they have claimed that a plan has been developed to relaunch the factory for the production of “other” automobile brands and negotiations are yet to be confirmed (investing.com). In addition, Mazda’s competitor Toyota, announced on Friday that it has ended auto production in Russia due to the disruption in supplies of parts and key materials (investing.com). With a decline in competition, and potentially a production relaunch in the mid to long-term, this could be a good opportunity for Mazda and its investors.
