Following an order to managers to assess each employee's role's need, Tesla workers are bracing for potential layoffs, according to a Bloomberg News story on Wednesday.
After the electric vehicle (EV) company stopped some of its employees' semiannual performance evaluations, Bloomberg reported that US managers at Tesla were recently given the responsibility of evaluating whether the functions of their team members were necessary.
Elon Musk, the CEO, made this choice in line with his emphasis on cutting expenses in the face of a clear slowdown in Tesla's sales growth.
Known for his strict management style throughout all of his endeavours, Musk took a firm stand at Twitter in late 2022, giving staff members the option to follow a "hardcore" work culture or leave the company.
The firm has added a large number of workers since 2020; by the end of the previous year, it employed over 140,000 people worldwide, an eight-fold growth from 2016, the year before the Model 3 car was introduced.
Tesla made deliberate workforce cutbacks last year despite a roughly 10% increase in personnel.
