Zuckerberg’s Threads starts rolling out on the internet as a more direct aim at Musk’s X.

Threads, a Twitter competitor created by Meta that debuted last month and soared to the top of the app charts, is now rolling out on the web so users can access it from their PCs. The website, Threads.net, may still just provide a link to download the mobile app because it is not yet available to everyone.

A spokeswoman for Meta stated that the business will be "rolling out" Threads for the general public "over the next few days."

According to Meta, it will be modified in the upcoming weeks to more closely resemble the mobile app.

Although Threads attracted users quickly after its launch in July, the app's growth and engagement fell the following week as its limits became clear.

In an effort to improve the app, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg stated in the beginning of August that the business was developing a web version of Threads as well as a search feature.

In order to compete effectively with X, formerly known as Twitter, advertisers and influencers have already told CNBC that Threads requires more capabilities including a search capability and a method to use the app from desktop computers. Power users and influencers on X frequently utilise the app's desktop version to share material throughout the day and make comments.

With new brand safety measures designed to increase businesses' comfort with running advertisements on the site, X has been making an effort to win back advertisers in the meanwhile. Since Tesla CEO Elon Musk gained ownership of X in October, many charitable organisations and researchers have found an increase in hate speech and racist content, a claim the business rejects.

Although Zuckerberg stated recently that he is "quite optimistic" about Threads during an earnings call, Meta does not intend to make money off the app until it has gained greater traction.
